Reciprocal Agreement

Reciprocal Agreement is an arrangement between two or more social security institutions to compensate an individual through the payment of long-term benefit using periods worked in more than one participating territory that can allow you to qualify for a pension.
The benefits offered are:
- Age Benefit
- Invalidity and
- Survivors benefit
If you qualify for a pension both in Grenada and Canada, each country is required to pay you a separate pension based on its local Regulations.
The Grenada National Insurance Scheme has reciprocal agreements with the following:
- CARICOM Reciprocal Agreement
- Canada Reciprocal Agreement (Canada)
- Report the accident/disease to your employer immediately.
- Visit your doctor or hospital as soon as possible.
- Have the Employment Injury Claim form appropriately completed.
- Submit all original bills/receipts for expenses incurred
The Canada Reciprocal Agreement is between Canada and Grenada only.
To qualify for benefits under the Canada Reciprocal Agreement you must:
- Be registered and have a Social Security Number with Canada.
- Worked and contributed to the Social Security Scheme in Canada
To claim for a benefit under the Canada Reciprocal Agreement you should complete the appropriate form – Age Benefit Form, Invalidity Benefit Form or Survivors Benefit Form.
You should provide the following:
- an original Birth Certificate
- a valid picture ID
- an original certified Marriage Certificate (where applicable)
- an original certified Decree Absolute (where applicable)
- Statutory Declaration or an Affidavit to support any differences in names and surnames
The completed Claim for Age Benefit form should be submitted at least 3 months before your sixtieth (60th) birthday but no later than 3 months after.
The countries under the CARICOM Reciprocal Agreement are: –
- Trinidad
- Antigua & Barbuda
- The Bahamas
- Barbados
- Belize
- Dominica
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- Montserrat
- Kitts & Nevis
- Lucia
- Vincent & the Grenadines
- Suriname
To qualify for benefits under the CARICOM Reciprocal Agreement you must:
- Be registered and have a Social Security Number with any of the contributing countries
- Worked and contributed to the Social Security Scheme in any of the contributing countries

To claim for a benefit under the CARICOM Reciprocal Agreement you should complete the appropriate form – Age Benefit Form, Invalidity Benefit Form or Survivors Benefit Form.
You should provide the following:
- an original Birth Certificate

The completed Claim Form should be submitted no later than three (3) months after attaining retirement age, becoming a survivor, or becoming an invalid.
